Jersey Headband
This project is another way to use up those small pieces of gorgeous jersey, that are too good to throw away! During the Corona lockdown, I needed a way to cover up my grey roots, so this is it!
To make the headband, you need a jersey with a bit of stretch and you need to cut in the direction of stretch. This one I've used stretches in both directions, so it was ideal, but a one way stretch will work. Just make sure the length of the strips is along the D.O.G.S. (degree of greatest stretch)
Measure the circumference of your head and subtract about an 1",
Don't worry if it's not exact, just get as close as you can with the scrap you've got. My head is 22" (I know, enormous right!) but my scrap was 20" and it's fine.
Cut 2 strips at least 4" wide. This is a minimum. I could make them 5" from my scrap, which is great. Strips can be as wide as you can make them.
Sew the strips into tubes.
I did it on my overlocker, but you can use a normal sewing machine with a ball point/jersey needle and a stretch stitch.
I use these haemostats to turn them through, as the ends are not sewn up. These are great gadgets, available easily enough on ebay and brilliant if you make soft toys too.

Lay the turned out tubes across each other, then bring the ends together. This forms the knot at the front.
Sew the 2 ends together, at each end.
On the sewing machine, sew the 2 overlocked edges together. At this stage you'll be sewing through 4 strips. Use a 2cm seam allowance
Open the seam out flat and sew the 2 loose seam allowances down flat. You can skip this step but I think it makes for neater finish.
That's it! All done, very quick and easy, keeps my hair covered and tidy, as well as using up every last scrap!
